Middle School soccer: Boys tie, girls win against Springfield

Both Green Mountain Middle School soccer teams opened their seasons on Thursday, Sept. 13 with the boys playing Springfield to a 1-1 tie at home. Mac Walton scored early for GM while goalie Jon Little limited the Cosmos to one goal. The girls also played Springfield, winning by a 3-2 score in Springfield.

Boys Soccer: Twin Valley 5 Green Mountain 0

Wednesday, Sept. 12
Twin Valley struck early putting the Chieftains on their heels. GM’s youth and inexperience showed as they failed to bounce back from early goals and never quite hit their stride against the talented Wildcats from Wilmington.

Solid passing, a sustained attack and long throw-ins in the offensive zone resulted in a 4-0 halftime lead for Twin Valley on goals from Nick Wilson, Del Nesbitt, Eli Park and Tony Tarr. A handball in the penalty area midway through the second half led to a penalty kick for Tarr, putting his second goal in for a 5-0 final.

“No excuses, but our inexperience showed in this game with numerous breakdowns and a lack of discipline” GM coach Scott Walker said when reached after the game.
