Four businesses sponsor Ludlow movie series

Four Ludlow businesses have joined with Friends of Ludlow Auditorium in sponsoring a special series of summer movies at the Ludlow Auditorium, 1 Whispering Pine  (located on the second floor of Town Hall) in Ludlow.

Sponsored by the DJs Restaurant, the series begins on 7 p.m., Sunday, June 16 with Frank Loesser’s musical tribute to Damon Runyon’s fictional world, Guys and Dolls, starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine.

Next, Ludlow Insurance Agency sponsors Leonard Bernstein’s hit, West Side Story, on 7 p.m., Sunday, July 21 starring Natalie Wood.

The third and final musical is sponsored by the Calm Moments Spa and will be a presentation of one or more Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ films that defined the Hollywood musical of the 1930s and ’40s on 7 p.m. Sunday, August.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, The Book Nook will sponsor a silent movie festival, which begins with short comedy, accompanied by live piano music provided by a local pianist. The main feature will be Buster Keaton’s Steamboat Bill, Jr. with music provided by Jeff Rapsis.

FOLA will also be presenting its regular monthly films. The schedule includes:

  • June 8 – The Verdict with Paul Newman
  • July 6 – Skyfall– a James Bond film
  • Aug. 3 – Argo
  • Sept. 7 – Life of Pi

    Just a point of clarification: The Ludlow Auditorium is on the second floor of the Ludlow Town Hall on Depot Street, and not on 1 Whispering Pine as reported. All FOLA events take place in the Auditorium. Thanks . . .
