Weston Playhouse announces London Theatre Tour; Jersey Girls cafe opens; aviation career day camp for boys and girls at Hartness

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is sponsoring its 12th annual London Theatre Tour, Nov. 5 to 14. An informational reception will be held in the Weston Playhouse living room at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 3. Weston producing director Steve Stettler and London tour director Giles Ramsay will review the itinerary and answer questions. Registration deadline is Aug. 5.

This year’s London Theatre Tour package includes six plays, a concert, some meals and a series of lectures and discussions. Tour members will spend nine nights at The Montague on the Gardens adjacent to the British Museum.

Theater performances will include London’s hits and new productions that include James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, a BBC Orchestra concert of Sondheim music, plays and musicals from the Almeida, the National Theatre, the Young Vic and London’s West End. Participants will meet with actors and other artists, journalists and critics.

Additionally, participants will receive scripts and welcome packets with recommendations of additional plays, concerts and exhibitions. The tour price includes accommodations, many meals, all performances, discussions and visits, ground transportation and a tax-deductible contribution to the theater company. A group flight is recommended and will be met by the tour leaders.

 Weeklong aviation camp for kids at Hartness Airport

Hartness State Airport in North Springfield, VT will be hosting the Aviation Career Education 2013 day camp from July 22nd – 26th. The camp will provide a valuable opportunity for area girls and boys, between the ages of 12 and 15, to learn more about aviation through a variety of experiences.

The ACE Camp is a hands-on aviation program that allows young people to explore the dynamics of a variety of aviation-related careers. Professional, military and civilian experts will introduce campers to the principles of flight, teamwork, pre-flight safety, building and launching model rockets, plotting navigation courses, flight simulators and much more. FAA certified pilots will brief participants on what’s involved with flight safety and also the features of different types of aircraft.

Young Eagle flights are coordinated and flown by pilots of the Experimental Aircraft Association and rides in other aircraft may be available as well. It’s a fun, interactive week of learning more about the world of aviation!

It will take place daily, from 8: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26 at Hartness State Airport in North Springfield. Tuition is $325 for the week, which includes transportation from the ACE site to camp activities, food and beverages, T-shirts, caps, cameras and much more.
