Health care exchange forum Sept. 10

Sept. 10: Ludlow health care forum to answer exchange questions

If you missed last week’s health care forum, hosted by state Rep. Leigh Dakin in Chester, there will be another forum dealing with the new laws effecting health care in Vermont, held 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the Ludlow Town Hall Auditorium.
Friends of Ludlow Auditorium and the Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring this event, which is open to small businesses and individuals, and will be conducted by Vermont Health Connect.
Vermont Health Connect will be the marketplace where individuals, families and small businesses in Vermont can compare public and private health plans and select one that fits their needs and budget.
Beginning in October 2013, Vermont Health Connect will offer online, side-by-side comparisons of each plan’s costs and benefits at http://healthconnect.vermont.gov. Those uncomfortable with the Internet or those who want personal assistance selecting a health plan can call the customer support center.
Starting in 2014, many Vermonters will be eligible for tax credits and other forms of financial assistance to help pay the cost of health care.
The first open enrollment period will run from October 2013 to March 2014. Those enrolling by Dec.15, 2013, will see their health coverage start Jan. 1, 2014. For information, call 802-228-7239 or 802-228-5830; information will also be posted at www.fola.us.
