Children’s book raises funds for farmer relief effort

Children’s book to benefit the NOFA’s Vermont Farmer Emergency Relief Fund.

Vermont children’s book publishing company, Radiant Hen in Coventry, has published a children’s picture book to benefit the Vermont Farmer Emergency Relief Fund, organized by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont. The book, titled Higher Ground is about Tropical Storm Irene and its effects on a small farm.

The book was written by Ferrisburgh resident Kevin Fitton and illustrated with hand-painted wood cut prints by Caldecott award-winning artist Mary Azarian of Plainfield, Vt.

So far the book has raised $2,000 for the fund and Radiant Hen hopes to raise an additional $3,000. The NOFA Emergency Relief Fund was established in 1997 to assist organic farmers adversely affected by natural and unnatural disaster through grants and zero interest loans. Higher Ground sales will continue to benefit the NOFA Emergency Relief Fund until the first print run is sold out. Cost of the book is $10.95 plus shipping
