Two Londonderry parks seek volunteers for building projects

Flood Brook School

Two parks in Londonderry will soon be needing help in building playgrounds. Both the Flood Brook School and Pingree Park have projects in the wings.

The Flood Brook School Community Playground Build will be taking place Thursday through Sunday, May 15 through May 18 at the school. The organization says it was able to save tens of thousands of dollars on the playground structures by providing the the labor to assemble the sets.

Help will be needed assembling benches and parts, with food distribution, playing with kids, mixing cement and raking and shoveling dirt and mulch. Organizers are seeking about 100 people each day, with much, little or no experience. Volunteers can sign up for a half-day of work. If you have tools, such as a wheelbarrow, rake or shovel those would be much appreciated.

Childcare and food will be provided for all volunteers. And volunteers are asked to leave pets at home.

To sign up, email to bsplayground@gmail.com or call Karol Allen at the school at802- 824-6811. A reminder email will be sent to each group with more information about the day.

Pingree Park

The second Londonderry park to seek volunteer help is Pingree Park, plans of which have been in the works for more than year. Currently, David Chaves Excavating has prepared the site for the new playground equipment, raising the grade and flattening the area out.

The Londonderry Parks Board is planning for its Community Build Day for the new playground equipment for Friday and Saturday, May 30 and May 31.Volunteers of all skill levels will be needed for both days and the work will be supervised by the representatives from the Ultiplay Parks and Playgrounds company.

While work will begin at Pingree at 7 a.m., any amount of time that people can donate will be appreciated. Volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, rakes, work gloves and wheelbarrows. If you are interested in helping call 802-824-3356 or email londonderrytownparks@gmail.com.

In the meantime, the Pingree Park Revitalization Project is holding a fund-raising fitness project. Bellyfit teacher Felicity Haselton will be donating all funds collected from her May classes held at the Old Town Hall building on Middletown Road in South Londonderry to the project.

Classes will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and 4 to 5 p.m. Fridays starting Wednesday May, 7.  Consider coming to a class to help support the improvements at Pingree Park.  For more information about Bellyfit click here or email felicityhaselton@gmail.com.

The gates to Pingree Park will be open for regular operating hours after mud season is over.
