Feb. 27: Music and art at Grounded4Life

On Friday, Feb. 27, Grounded4LIFE is hosting a double event with music led by Evelyn Cormier, a musical artist from Claremont, N.H., and  an art show featuring the work of Mary Jane Q. Cross.

Painting with her fingers became necessary after Cross developed a tremor that made brushwork difficult. Good coping skills and an eye that sees beauty and truth in most everything she sees, has given Cross’s work a broad scope of interests that develop not only into paintings but poems as well.

Bring a friend or two. Doors will open at 6:30 and music will begin at 7 p.m. The coffee bar and refreshments will be ready when you arrive. Grounded4LIFE is located in the coffee house “down under” at the First Baptist Church at 162 Main St., Chester. Events are always free.

Check out the Grounded4Life Facebook page or contact John Nunnikhoven at john4ns@fastmail.fm

Feb. 28: Broadway talent perform at free Weston Playhouse concert

Weston Playhouse Theatre Co. will light up a winter night with a free concert of songs from an exciting new musical performed by top Broadway talent. At 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, a cast of five will sing selections from Katya Stanislavskaya’s new musical Resident Alien at the Weston Playhouse, 12 Park St., just off Route 100 S in Weston. The hour-long concert will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with the writer and performers. No reservations are necessary.

On stage will be Broadway performers Sarah Uriarte Berry and David Bonanno, Caitlin Kinnunen, Marissa McGowan and A.J. Shively. The musical director for the event is Charity Wicks.

Resident Alien is an original story of the Berdichevsky family, who emigrate to New York from the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. The musical explores the theme of the main characters’ ability — or inability — to adapt to a new set of rules.

Various methods of collection and processing will be discussed that are especially suited for the small-scale, hobby or part-time beekeeper.

A question and answer session will follow the workshop. Afterwards Conrad will sign copies of his book Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture.
