Windows at Black River Academy Museum get needed repairs

Black River Academy Museum is replacing windows.

The Black River Academy Museum in Ludlow is in the process of repairing and recaulking all of its historic windows.  The sashes are the original wooden ones and have not been modified with the addition of weather stripping or storm windows.

This maintenance must be done on a regular basis and is ongoing expense of the museum.  However, the museum will be reducing its energy consumption and carbon footprint.  Eventually the museum plans to add storm windows, either inside or outside, while maintaining the integrity of the historic windows.

This project was begun in May 2014 by Mark Mudgett & Sons and is on schedule to be completed this May.  The cost of this maintenance project is more than $94,000.  The Historic Preservation Trust of Vermont has provided a grant that has helped to offset the cost.  The museum will open for the 2015 season in June.
