Chester Select Board calls special meeting on water project

On the heels of the defeat of a ratification vote on the water system upgrade funding, the Chester Select Board has called a special meeting for noon on Thursday, July 2 at Town Hall, 556 Elm St.

The meeting agenda includes an update/discussion on the project and a public comments. According to Town Manager David Pisha, the meeting was scheduled for noon because that was when select board members will be available.
Pisha noted that at the May 19 vote, there were 86 no votes and this time there were 74 while the yes vote dropped from 112 to 69. “The ‘yeses’ probably thought it was settled,” said Pisha. “And it’s human nature for the no voters to be more active.”
Asked where he thought the project would go from here Pisha said, “Come to the meeting. Be here tomorrow at noon and find out.”

I am relatively new to Chester so I may not be in the know. If I had not seen the notice for a special meeting tomorrow in the Telegraph how would I know? If public comment is being solicited it is not demonstrated by this short notice. I know many towns, schools etc. have an email list for information distribution. Maybe it’s time for Chester to invest in one. Even at that, most working folks can’t just leave work without advance notice. After attending Monday night’s meeting I question what will be presented with less than 72 hours passing since the last meeting. Again, if I’m missing something please point me in the right direction.
Special meetings require 24 hours notice. We posted notice of the meeting on The Telegraph newspages, calendar and Facebook page as soon as we received it, which was at 11 a.m. this morning.
