VTel Wireless launches high speed Internet in eight communities

VTel Wireless, the first 100 percent 4G LTE carrier in America, has launched its high-speed Internet service in the Springfield area including Rockingham, Bellows Falls, Saxtons River, Cambridgeport, Spoonerville, Chester, North Springfield and Baltimore.

Vtel wirelessThe network boasts download speeds of up to 50 Mbps, does not require a contract and offers data plans starting at $10 a month.

VTel Wireless’ broadband speeds allow users to stream and download movies, music and other media to multiple devices at once. Since the signal is transmitted wirelessly from towers throughout the state, the service can be used anywhere within the service area, at home, work or on-the-go.

The network currently reaches 60,000 homes, and in 2016,  Voice over LTE is expected to be available, enabling users to make traditional cell phone calls anywhere in the service area. There are no overage fees and customers can cancel or restart service at any time. In addition, every user gets 2 terabytes of free cloud storage. The company is able to provide service through partnerships with Sprint and Ericcson, as well as an $85 million award from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

The plans range from $10 a month for 1 GB to $250 a month for 500 GB. The most popular plan is 30 GB for $60, while similar data allotments from other providers are $120 from Verizon, $205 from AT&T, and $245 from US Cellular. VTel Wireless is a subsidiary of Vermont Telephone Co. Inc.
