Kara and Andy Lake as Jennings & McComber return to Grounded4Life with their own special blend of music with a Celtic flair on Friday, Oct. 16. Kara on guitar and Andy on multiple instruments including guitar, banjo, bass, and accordion, present an evening of contemporary Christian and originals.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and music will begin at 7 p.m. The coffee bar and refreshments will be open. Grounded4LIFE is located in the coffee house downstairs at the First Baptist Church at 162 Main St. Events are always free.

Oct. 18: Weston church holds Taizé Service

On Sunday, Oct. 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Weston Community Church will hold a Taizé Service at the Church on the Hill on Lawrence Hill Road in Weston. New Thought Vermont and the International Association for Voice Movement Therapy are co-sponsoring this event. This is the first in a series of programs scheduled for October.

Singing a Way of Hope is a meditative service of sung chant, silence and sacred text, using the music and prayer of the French Taizé community. Trish Watts, singer/songwriter, educator andVoice Movement Therapy practitioner, will lead the service.

She has been a devout friend of the Brothers of Taizé for decades and has assisted them with gathering and training singers and musicians for pilgrimages throughout Australia and for World Youth Day events.

At 3:30 p.m., there will be a half-hour of rehearsal singing, with the hour-long service immediately following. A $10 suggested donation benefits the church.

Oct. 19: Derek Buchan concert benefits two churches

Pianist Derek Buchan will perform an hour-long concert on grand piano, which will include music from Mozart to Gershwin, at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 at the Chester Baptist Church on 162 Main St. in Chester.

Following the concert, a reception of wine, hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be held down the street at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 313 Main St.

The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children 6 and older. The proceeds will be divided equally between the two churches to benefit their outreach programs.
