Small business workshops target veterans

A free small business event with the focus on veterans is being held from 8:30 to 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 6 at 14th Star Brewing Co., 133 N. Main St., in St. Albans. It includes two workshops: Financing a Veteran-Owned Business and Doing Business with the Government. Registration and networking begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Financing a Veteran-Owned Business workshop features a panel of lenders ready to discuss programs to assist veteran owners of small business. The workshop begins at 9 a.m.

The Doing Business with the Government workshop begins at 10 a.m. and includes a presentation and a Q&A with government procurement specialists to discuss contracting opportunities for veteran-owned and service disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, veterans consistently have a higher rate of self-employment than non-veterans, so the SBA wants to ensure the veterans have the resources necessary to start a small business and be successful, such as access to the capital, counseling, and contracting assistance,” said Chris Herriman, SBA veteran outreach officer.

Coffee and pastries will be served. The event is held in conjunction with the Small Business Administration’s National Veterans Small Business Week. For more information or to register, visit www.sbavt.eventbrite.com, call 802-828-4422 Ext. 215 or email daniel.monahan@sba.gov.
