Nov. 18:  Vermont’s environmental history explored

In a free discussion on Vermont’s environmental history, Bruce Post will shed  light on Vermont’s environmental past by using historic photos, maps, recordings and videos and asks provocative questions about its present and future. The event takes place a 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Homestead Room at Grafton Inn, 92 Main St. in Grafton. Refreshments will be served.

This event is part of a series of informational presentations by the Grafton Woodlands Group which is dedicated to protecting Grafton’s heritage and future. For more information go to  its website or visit its Facebook page.

Nov. 19: Great American Smokeout day

acspc-046096Thursday, Nov. 19 is the day that tobacco quitters can jumpstart their cessation.

“Quit like a Champion” is this year’s Great American Smokeout theme. 802Quits.org provides free tools, patches and gum and help to quit successfully.

The Collaborative is partnering with area businesses and organizations to provide quit resources. Maplefields in Manchester and Neighborhood Connections in Londonderry will be providing resources and 802Quits support on Thursday to customers, clients and employees. If you are interested in quitting or participating in the Great American Smokeout, contact the Collaborative 802-824-4200.

Grace Abounding’s spiritual music to be featured at Chester coffeehouse

Grace Abounding visits Grounded4Life coffeehouse downstairs at the First Baptist Church at 162 Main St., Chester. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music begins at 7 p.m.

Grace Abounding is a young group breaking into the contemporary Christian music scene. The band features Elijah Martin on guitar, Justin Masayda on bass guitar, Bryce Harris on drums and Hannah Martin on piano.

A NaNoWriMo writing opportunity on Saturday.

Feed your passion for writing by participating in Rockingham Library’s National Novel Writing Month. Reserve one of the library’s tables for an uninterrupted three-hours to write from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. Coffee, tea, water, munchies, power outlets and a basket of writing prompts will be available.

According to the NaNoWriMo website, the point of the project is encourage creative writing “by valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline. NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.” The event hopes to inspire writers to complete a first draft in 30 days.

Nov. 21: Windsor Partners fundraising dinner, comedy night

Comedy and dinner to raise funds for Windsor County Partners.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. comedians from Upper Valley Improv and the Quicksilver Comedy Troupe will perform a benefit show for Windsor County Partners at Hartland Elementary School, 97 Martinsville Road, Hartland. The comedy troupe performs family friendly skits based on audience suggestions.

At 6 p.m., before the performance, the group will serve a pasta dinner with dishes donated by local caterers and restaurants, including Silver Medal Mac & Cheese from the Pine Restaurant at the Hanover Inn.

Dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 5 and up. Children under 5 are free. The show is by donation. The funds raised during the evening will benefit Windsor County Partners, which creates and supports mentoring partnerships between adults and local youth.

Nov. 22: Rural Vermont celebrates 30 years

All year long, Rural Vermont has been celebrating 30 years of amplifying the voices of farmers and advocating for a fair food system. On Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m., Rural Vermont hosts a 30th Anniversary Celebration Finale at the Bethel Town Hall at 134 S. Main St. in Bethel with “Farmers Tell Their Stories” and musical guests Patti Casey, Colin McCaffrey and Pete Sutherland. Admission is $10 and tickets purchased in advance come with special, reserved seating for the show.

Black Krim Tavern of Randolph will provide a cash bar. The program begins at 7 p.m. and features four of Rural Vermont’s past and current farmer leaders sharing their personal stories, revisiting a chapter in Rural Vermont’s history and emphasizing the values that have defined the organization.
