March 31: GMUHS presents ‘Bye, Bye Birdie’

The Green Mountain High School Drama Club presents Bye-Bye Birdie at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 31 and April 1 and 2 in the GMUHS Auditorium, 716 Vermont Route 103 in Chester.

Bye Bye Birdie tells the story of a rock ’n’ roll singer Conrad Birdie, who is about to be inducted into the Army. His agents organize one final nationally televised performance before Conrad’s induction during which he bids a typical American teenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss.

Tickets are $5 for students/seniors, and $7 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door prior to each performance. For more information contact Anne Morton by calling 802-875-2146.

April 2: Collage class at 103 Artisans Marketplace

Artist Mary Hill will teach a More than Mixed Media workshop from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the 103 Artisans Marketplace at 7 Pineview Drive in Chester.

Class members will start with a blank canvas followed by tearing a variety of tissue-like papers to make a background.

They will experiment with layering and texture. Bring a concept or not. Students can choose from a variety of sizes — 8 inches by 10 inches or 9 inches by 12 inches — to take home to finish. No experience required.

Students are asked to bring: old letters, postcards, sewing patterns, tissue paper, Xeroxed photographs, lace, delicate fabrics.

April 2: FOLA screens ‘Enough Said’ rom-com

Friends of Ludlow Auditorium will feature a PG-13 romantic comedy Enough Said for its 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2 movie at Ludlow Town Hall Auditorium, 37 S. Depot St. in Ludlow.

Enough Said is about a divorced and single parent, Eva (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who spends her days at work as a masseuse but dreading her daughter’s impending departure for college. She meets Albert (James Gandolfini)—a sweet, like-minded man also facing an empty nest. As their romance quickly blossoms, Eva finds herself doubting her relationship with Albert when she learns the truth about Albert’s ex.

April 3: Wanda Houston sings in Raise the Roof Concert finale

Proctorsville’s Raise the Roof Concert Series ends with a concert by jazz & blues singer Wanda Houston at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 at Gethsemane Church on Depot Street in Proctorsville. On Sunday Houston teams up with Eugene Uman on keyboard and Dave Picchi on acoustic bass.  Admission is $10 at the door.

April 3: Springfield Community Players holds auditions for new season

The Springfield Community Players will hold auditions for all three productions of its 2016 season from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 and Monday, April 4 at the Players Studio on 113 South St. in Springfield.

The Players 2016 season will includes a musical and two plays: The Aliens by Annie Baker in the spring,  Jake’s Women or  Proof depending on auditions in the summer and Godspell in the fall.

The Aliens tells the story of two angry men sitting behind a Vermont coffee shop discussing their band, The Aliens. When a high-school student arrives to work at the shop, they decide to teach him everything they know. The show runs May 27–28 and June 3–4 with rehearsals starting in April. The cast is two men around 30 and a high school age boy. For further information on The Aliens production, contact Scott Stearns at sestearns@msn.com.

The season’s comedy is Jake’s Women by Neil Simon. Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with life, faces a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The show is scheduled for July 15–16 and 22–23. The cast is one male and six female characters of various ages.

David Auburn’s Proof, is a possible substitution for the Simon play. Cast needs are for two women (mid-20s and mid-30s) and two men (late-20s and late-60s). A young woman inherits her famous mathematician father’s talent. She must contend with the papers he left behind. Auditions for both Jake’s Women and Proof are on April 3–4 and on May 15–16. The musical Godspell by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak is based on the Gospels of St. Matthew. Performance dates are Oct. 14–16 and 21–22 with rehearsals in August. Those who audition will be asked to do readings from the script and to sing a song they have prepared. An accompanist will be provided.
