About 14 boys and their parents met on Saturday, April 9 for an information meeting about Chester Cub Scout Pack 206. The meeting, held at Chester-Andover Elementary School,  the prospective Scouts built and launched soda bottle rockets as their parents learned about the opportunities and adventures of Scouting.

Sponsored by the Chester Rotary Club, Cub Scout Pack 206 is in the process of re-organizing.

The gathering was attended by 14 boys and their parents. A followup meeting of the parents with Erik Tanney, executive director of the Calvin Coolidge Council of Boy Scouts of America, will be held this Saturday for discussion and planning.

The purpose was to introduce boys and their parents to Scouting, to advise parents how a Cub Scout Pack can be organized and to get parents to sign up if interested both for their boys and as potential leaders.

Parents of boys in first through sixth grade who are interested in additional information should contact Rotarians John Holme at 802-875-4392 or Bill Dakin at 802-875-3456.

Northern Stage, Dartmouth College team up for E-Term

Northern Stage of White River Junction and Dartmouth College announce a partnership that will expand the collaborative exchange between the two institutions.

Northern Stage has recently been granted Academic Theatre status by Actors’ Equity Association, which recognizes the formal relationship between Northern Stage and Dartmouth, and provides each institution with a set of unique benefits. The two join the ranks of other similar partnerships such as Hartford Stage and the Hartt School, St. Louis Rep and Webster University, and Syracuse Stage and Syracuse University.

Says Northern Stage Producing Artistic Director and Dartmouth faculty member Carol Dunne, “This collaborative relationship will help our theater students make a bigger and more immediate impact on the American theater because they will have the ability to thrive in a professional setting.”

As part of this partnership, the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning will sponsor a Dartmouth/Northern Stage Experiential (or “E”) Term for five exceptional Dartmouth students in the fall of 2016. The E-term Company will be mentored by Northern Stage artists and staff and will serve in artistic and administrative roles.

The centerpiece of this E-Term will be Northern Stage’s Off-Broadway  production of Orwell in America at 59E59 Theater. Students will participate in rehearsals and performances in Hanover, N.H., beginning early September 2016, travel to New York City to continue their work as part of the production team during the Off-Broadway run, then return to Northern Stage in November to perform additional duties, including acting in A Christmas Carol. The students’ E-term experience will conclude with the final performance of the holiday show on Dec. 24, 2016.
