‘Screenagers’ film on digital impact screened at GMUHS; Ludlow Elementary gets rehab funds; Springfield Hospital offers nursing scholarship

ScreenagersGreen Mountain Union High School will be screening the film Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age, exploring the fallacy of multi-tasking and the impact of social media, the Internet and screen time on a child’s brain and family life.

The movie is free and open to the public and will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 28 at Green Mountain Union High School Auditorium, 716 Vt. Route 103 South. For more information, contact cortney.slobodnjak@trsu.org

State awards Ludlow Elementary rehab funds

The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services has awarded Two Rivers Supervisory Union with approximately $19,000 to support the restoration of Ludlow Elementary School’s Recreation building, the soon to be Presidential Hall.

This building supports a variety of events and activities for the school, town recreation department and local civic groups. It is in need of new bleachers, a dividing curtain and a fresh coat of paint. Additional efforts are under way to make sure this project reaches its full completion.

Springfield Hospital nursing scholarship applications available

Eileen Austin Neal was a nurse at Springfield Hospital for 64 years.

Applications are being accepted for the 11th annual Eileen Austin Neal Nursing Scholarship of $1,000.  This scholarship is open to any student who has been accepted into a nursing program of study.

Applicants will be judged on interest in and commitment to the field of nursing.  Determination will be based on merit and need.

Application forms are available in high school guidance offices and from the Development Office of Springfield Medical Care Systems. Deadline is May 27.

Eileen Austin Neal was a registered nurse at Springfield Hospital for 64 years, retiring in 2005.  She was the first recipient of the Hospital’s Community Health Award in 2003. In 2004, the hospital established the Spirit of Nursing Award in recognition of her many years of dedicated service.

Upon her death in February 2006, at the request of Neal’s family, Springfield Hospital established a nursing scholarship fund in her name with the gifts received in her memory.
