June 13: Art opening at Fourth Corner Foundation Gallery

The Fourth Corner Foundation Gallery has recently acquired monotypes by Paul Evelti along with some other new works and it invites the public to visit now through Friday, July 15 to view the exhibit. An artist reception will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at 578 Hitchcock Hill Road in Windham.

On Saturday July 23 at 5 p.m., Fourth Corner  will present a new exhibition of the works of a mix of artists and media. That exhibit will continue until Monday, Aug. 15.

June 15: CCCA annual calendar contest deadline looms

The Cavendish Community and Conservation Association has extended its deadline for the annual calendar submissions to Wednesday, June 15.

Photos must show scenes and landscapes in Cavendish and Proctorsville focusing on their beauty, historic significance and overall importance to the community. Pictures can include people or animals.

Submit an 8 by 10 inch horizontal photo, with your name, the name you give the picture and the general location of where the photo was taken. Submissions of digital copies on a disk are encouraged.

Application forms are available at the Cavendish Town Office at 37 High St., at Crows Bakery on Depot Street, or online at www.cavendishccca.org. Contact Robin at 802-226-7736 if you have questions.

June 15: Summer student opportunities at Weston Playhouse

btc-main-imagewThe Weston Playhouse Theatre Company offers two ways for interested high school or middle school students to be a part of the playhouse community. TheatreLab provides 15 students with free admission to five summer shows, and an inside look at how professional productions evolve.

Backstage tours, tech rehearsals, actor/director talkbacks, workshops, and more are all part of the TheatreLab experience. Students may apply with a brief essay and application, available on the Weston website. Not only will participants watch performances and attend special events, they will meet new friends, and discover new areas of theater production. Enrollment extended to June 15.

Broadway Theatre Camp is back for a second year. A three-week summer program for secondary students and graduating seniors, BTC is produced in collaboration with Burr and Burton Academy’s Creative Arts Department and held at its theater and dance facilities at 57 Seminary Ave. in Manchester. Beginning Aug. 1, students will work on songs and scenes from Broadway shows, as well as material from Mamma Mia!, which will be in production at the playhouse. Three weeks of training culminates in a student performance on the Weston MainStage on Friday, Aug. 19, and tickets to the professional production of Mamma Mia! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to train with Broadway professionals. Enrollment ends June 15.

The Parker Quartet opens  Yellow Barn’s season

June 16: Yellow Barn welcomes Parker Quartet

On Thursday, June 16 at 8 p.m., the Big Barn at 49 Main St. in Putney opens early for Yellow Barn’s alumni ensemble the Parker Quartet in a special pre-season performance of works by Webern, Bartók and Schubert.

Formed in 2002, the Grammy award-winning Parker Quartet is made up of Daniel Chong and Ying Xue, violins; Jessica Bodner, viola; and Kee-Hyun Kim, cello.

June 19: McKenzie-Fox plays  Stone Hearth

The musical duo McKenzie-Fox from Nashville, Tenn., will be performing on Sunday, June 19 at the Stone Hearth Inn at 698 Vermont Route 11 in Chester for Wing Night. Admission is free. For additional information call 802-875-2525.

June 23: Schoolhouse Rock, Live at Weston

The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, it’s instructing a whole new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do The Circulation” on the musical stage.

Schoolhouse Rock, Live runs June 23 through July 10 at the Weston Rod and Gun Club at 982 Route 100S. Show times are 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 1 and 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday It runs approximately 60 minutes with no intermission.

Broadway veteran and longtime Weston Company member Susan Haefner directs a cast of young performers from the country’s top undergraduate musical theater programs in Schoolhouse Rock, Live.

Tickets are just $15 for adults and $8 for kids and can be purchased by calling the box office at 802-824-5288 or by visiting westonplayhouse.org.

June 25: Music in the Meadow weekend set

Music-in-the-meadow-w016The 14th annual Music in the Meadow event will be held from noon to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, at Motel in the Meadow, Route 11 West, Chester.

All of the money received goes to Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure.

A silent auction will be held on both days with items donated by local merchants and community members along with a raffle for a queen-size quilt donated by Sue Ashe of Country Treasures as first prize. A horseshoe tournament takes place at noon on Saturday.

Bands that have donated their time perform throughout the weekend including Mark Shelton, Crazy Love, DV8, The Imperfectionists, Spectris, Garry Sharon, Bondville Boys, Totally Submerged, Floyd Lawrence and Intercept.
