Southern Pie Company rolls out specialty ice creams;
CPBR raises $4,000 at inaugural golf tourney

Southern Pie Company of Chester is now offering its own ice creams.

In response to requests from the community for locally based ice cream options, Leslie and Scott Blair, owners of the Southern Pie Company, 287 Main St. in Chester, have developed new ice cream flavors to complement their pies.

The Blairs said they approached the Chelsea Royal Diner of Brattleboro, which makes its own ice creams using milk and cream from the St. Albans Co-Op Creamery, of its “locally made high-quality ice cream with local ingredients.”

They then worked with the diner’s ice cream makers to develop pie-flavored ice creams featuring four of their signature pies. All four flavors of ice cream are made with a whole pie folded into each batch, creating a unique experience that has chunks of pie in every bite. For people looking for a more traditional flavor, the Blairs also serve a classic vanilla ice cream as well.

Southern Pie’s ice creams are available in the Blairs’ pie shop where it is scooped into waffle cone bowls, served with a slice of pie or sold in hand-packed pints. The Blairs plan on featuring additional seasonal flavors throughout the year.

The Southern Pie Company has been serving up scoops of their ice cream since the beginning of June. “Customers’ faces light up and they say, ‘Wow, pie in ice cream, what else do you need?’ ” says Scott Blair.

On the first Wednesday of every month, the Southern Pie Company hosts a pie social. The next one will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6. Attendees can enjoy an unlimited pie bar, coffee, tea and the Blairs’ signature southern sweet tea. The price is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Ice cream will be offered for an extra charge.
