Chester celebrates 250 with displays, activities and food

Photographers Claudio Veliz, Karen Zuppinger and Shawn Cunningham spent Saturday and Sunday at the various events being held around Chester to mark the 250th anniversary of the town’s New York charter, the last one of three that the town was issued. Activities ranged from the Pinnacle to the Fairgrounds and from the Green to the Stone Village.
A funky giant sculpture greets guests at the Chester Fairgrounds on Saturday.
The antique fire pumper from the Yosemite Firehouse was among vehicles and equipment on display.
Old farm equipment was also on display
A refurbished truck from Andover.
A military transport.
Slices of pie were available…
…thanks to the Southern Pie Company.
Motorcycles, like this classic Indian, were also on display.
More motorcycles,
including classic BMWs.
And antique snowmobiles were also displayed.
There was a cookout at the Pinnacle on Saturday.
Derrick Suursoo happily manned the grill.
For the first time, the refurbished Hearse House was open for visitors
as was the Public Tomb, at Brookside Cemetery. Lynn Russell explains how
the tomb holds bodies during the winter when the ground is frozen.
The Depot was buzzing with activity.
Passengers waited to board
for excursions on the
Green Mountain Flyer.
Kids were especially enthusiastic.

lighting the sky in a cascade
of color and sparkles.
They put a cap on an eventful day
and brought the day to a close

Thanks Chester Telegraph for capturing the amazing series of events of that made up Chester 250. The smiles, waves, and excitement is what we all needed. There are more photos coming in from the Thurs/ Fri events as well as events on Sun. All in all, we have so much to celebrate! The next phase is to look at what is next. Can’t wait!
