Friday night was a busy one for Chester Police with two major incidents back to back.Telegraph logo

At about 10:30 p.m., Chester Police, Vermont State Police and Springfield Police responded to a home in the area of Highland Court where an argument between a man and a woman had been reported. Officers found that the woman had been assaulted by a man who had then fled with an ax. Police then responded to a report of a man with an ax  at the Jiffy Mart. By the time they arrived, the man had fled into the woods.

Then, just before 11 p.m. they responded to a 911 report of a woman screaming in the same area as the first call. Officers found an unresponsive man on the floor of home and suspected that was overdosing of opiates. State police used Naloxone to revive the man, who was taken by Chester Ambulance to Springfield Hospital for treatment. Police say the case remains under investigation

Later that night, while police took statements from those at the home where the assault was reported, the man they suspect had committed the assault showed up. According to a press release, the man resisted when police tried to arrest him. He was charged with domestic assault, resisting arrest, violations of conditions of release, unlawful mischief, operation without owners consent, criminal threatening, disorderly conduct and offense committed in the presence of a child. The man was held at Southern State Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail with an appearance in Windsor Superior Court scheduled for today, Monday, July 18.
