Oct. 28: House band at Grounded4Life

Grounded4Life coffeehouse hosts an evening of music with their in-house band, Grounded at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. The group has a vast repertoire spanning multiple genres, mainly contemporary praise and worship and rock, but also dipping into some other styles on occasion.

The event will be held at Grounded4Life, located on the lower level of the Chester Baptist Church at 162 Main St. in Chester. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with food, coffee, fellowship and conversation.

Oct. 28 & 29: Walpole church holds weekend Rummage Sale

First Congregational Church on the Common in Walpole, N.H., holds its Rummage Sale from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. A bag sale takes place on Saturday noon to 1 p.m.

Food will be sold on Saturday only. Items for sale include: fall and winter clothing and household items. The sale is handicap accessible.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 is the church’s annual Mistletoe Mart. There will be a coffee time, luncheon, crafts, candy, food, plants, pet table, gifts, Christmas trims, and white elephants.

Oct. 28: Youth theater performs ‘Clowns in Joke Factory’

clown-town-pressfor-webArea clowns have gathered to create “Clowns in a Joke Factory,” which opens on Saturday, Oct. 28 and runs for two consecutive weekends at the New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat St., Brattleboro.

Under the leadership of NEYT founder Stephen Stearns, clowns comprised of acrobat-stunt-man Bill Forchion, mime Chris Yerlig, street juggler Tom Yahner and performance artist Kali Quinn have worked with 16 up-and-coming clowns to create an original play filled with gags, stunts, tricks and more. The youngest NEYT actors also will make an appearance on stage.

Performances are the weekends of Oct. 28 to 30 and Nov. 4 to 6

Tickets are $10 and $8 students and may be purchased in advance at www.neyt.org or at the NEYT box office in person. They are also available by phone 802-246-6398 from noon to 5 p.m. only on Wednesdays.

New England Youth Theatre is an accessible theater, with accommodations for wheelchairs, and Assistive Listening Devices for patrons who are hard of hearing.

Oct. 29: 5K run for Chester playground

3b48985r_childrenThe Pennies for the Playground 5K Walk and Run and Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 beginning at Chester-Andover Elementary School at 72 Main St. in Chester.

The Kids Fun Run starts at 8:45 a.m. It’s a short loop around the school, open to ages 14 and under. The 5K Walk + Run starts at 9 a.m. All ages are welcome to walk or run the 3.1 mile loop around town.

The cost is $20 for the 5K and $5 for the Fun Run, and all proceeds go toward rebuilding the elementary school playground.

Childcare is provided on the playground during the 5K. Register online or in person on the day of the race.

Oct. 29: Howl O’ Ween Dog Walk for Humane Society

The 2nd annual Howl O’ Ween Dog Walk is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 on the Toonerville Trail in Springfield. This event benefits the Springfield Humane Society.

Join the walk and compete for a prize for best dog costume. Dogs and costumes are not necessary — people are free to walk solo or with a friend to support the local humane society. Ask friends and family to support your walk — pledge sheets are available at the shelter at 401 Skitchewaug Trail, in Springfield or on its website at spfldhumane.org.

Oct. 29: Barn party celebrates solar farm

On Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. farmer Lisa Kaimen, of Jersey Girls Dairy at 157 Thompson Road in Chester, hosts a “Dairy Gone Solar” barn party for the community.

Jersey Girls Dairy is a farm dedicated to sustainable and environmentally friendly farm practices, with products that are Animal Welfare Certified and recently Better Milk approved.

The event will feature live music, free food and an art action. Learn about the dairy that has gone solar.

Oct. 31: St. Luke’s holds annual online benefit auction

Now in its fourth year, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chester offers its Sale-on-the-Screen online sale of donated items. There are practical bargains along with heirlooms. Bidding ends on Monday, Oct. 31.

To review and make a bid, go to the church’s website www.stlukesepiscopalvt.org. Proceeds benefit the work of the church.
