Some of the Rockingham VCS employees who help with the Kurn Hattin visit are, clockwise from rear right: Wanda Lawrence, Janelle Lewis, Lianne Hayward, Tammy Spicer, Eileen Fullam, Rosemarri Roth, Gretchen McCabe and Carrie Atwood.

I would like to apologize for an error in an earlier Letter to the editor  in which I stated that the Grinch gifts distributed at the Kurn Hattin School were provided by a small number of employees at the Rockingham Vermont Country Store.

Almost all of the employees contribute to this project, and the Vermont Country Store matched employee contributions. Chester Rotary is deeply appreciative of this major contribution by so many generous people at the Rockingham Vermont Country Store.

Imagine the delight on the face of every child at the Kurn Hattin School in Westminster when, on Dec. 15 Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Grinch arrive at the school with red and white bags filled with gifts.

Each child receives a beautifully wrapped gift delivered personally by Santa and Mrs. Claus with a gift from his/her individual wish list.

Laughter fills the air. After the opening of gifts, which are by Chester Rotarians, Interact Club students and community elves, the Grinch makes his appearance.

Children hold tight to their gifts, making sure the Grinch will not steal them. As the Grinch’s heart grows and he learns about the spirit of giving, he turns into a most generous Grinch.

Out of his Christmas bag come unwrapped gifts for each and every child. These gifts for 100 children have been provided by the employees of the Rockingham Country Store and the employee contributions have been matched by the Vermont Country Store. Almost every employee contributes to this project, making the Grinch a real highlight.

Few people are aware of this contribution that happens quietly behind the scenes and we hope that the next time you are in the Vermont Country Store and you see one of these generous employees, you will thank them.

The Rotary Club of Chester thanks all who participate in this very special event and demonstrate the spirit of giving during this holiday season.
