Nov. 7: The River Artisans presents November crafts courses

The River Artisans Cooperative announced its November Make it a Handmade Holiday class schedule. Taught by member artisans, classes are held at the 26B Main St., Saxtons River shop. There is a fee of $20, except where noted. Some workshops have a small materials fee. The class size is limited to eight students, so students must pre-register.

Thursday, Nov. 7, 
6–8 p.m. Project Crocheted Ornaments: Recommended for beginner to intermediate crocheters, students will create an ornament either in thread, sport- or worsted-weight yarn depending on skill level. Attendees may bring their own yarn and crochet hooks. Kits will be available for purchase for $7 during class time.

Saturday, Nov. 9, 
2–4 p.m. Glass Glitter Ornaments: Elizabeth Clausen teaches various ways of making glass ornaments festive. There is a $5 supplies fee for materials. Attendees should bring a hair dryer.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 
6–8 p.m. Lip Balms: Laura Senes teaches this class on creating soothing balms for winter lips. There will be a small materials fee.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 6–8 p.m. Cookie Exchange: Bring a batch of a favorite homemade cookie and copies of its recipe. There will be cookies, coffee, tea, cider and a discussion of tips for making the perfect cookies and for baking gluten-free treats, as well as packaging and presentation ideas. This class is free.

Saturday, Nov. 23,
 2–4 p.m. Woodies Wonders Ornaments: Celebrate nature with ornaments made with collected pine cones, acorns, milkweed pods, lichen and twigs. Students are encouraged to bring their own natural elements though the instructor will have some available for a donation fee. Bring a glue gun and glue sticks.

Friday, Nov. 29, 6–8 p.m. The Perfect Presentation: Students will learn creative wrapping techniques, including how to get those ends neat, tie the perfect bow, and decorative accents, plus ideas for making packages almost too pretty to open. Students may bring along their gift purchases to practice on. Gift wrap, ribbons and add-ons will be available for purchase.

The public is invited to a free exhibit of the work of Leah Kuehne on 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday Nov. 8 and Friday Nov. 15 at grounded4LIFE on the ground floor of the Chester Baptist Church, at 162 Main St. in Chester.

Leah Kuehne’s work features landscape painting and liturgical art. Her recent work includes a series of seven liturgical banners on The Lord’s Prayer.

Nov. 9: ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ in Ludlow

Friends of the Ludlow Auditorium will present the award-winning movie Beasts of the Southern Wild at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the Ludlow Town Hall Auditorium, 37 Depot St., Ludlow.

A film about the crises of the world as seen and imagined through the eyes of a child, Beasts of the Southern Wild is a 2012 fantasy drama film directed by Benh Zeitlin. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards in 2013, where Quvenzhané Wallis became the youngest Best Actress nominee at age 9.

The film is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated to underwrite the cost of the film. Popcorn will be supplied courtesy of Berkshire Bank. For additional information, check www.fola.us or call 802-228-7239.

Nov. 11: Misty Valley offers two French courses

Misty Valley Books will offer two levels of The Learn French courses beginning the week of Nov. 11. The intermediate class begins on Monday Nov. 11, and beginner class begins on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Both classes are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will run for six weeks at the bookstore, 58 Common St., in Chester.

Taught by Bill Reed, co-proprietor of Misty Valley Books, the courses are recommended to students of high school age and older. Course fee: $100 for six sessions and materials. Workbooks and dictionaries will be available for sale.

wreath clipartNov. 21: Wreath-decorating workshops at St. Luke’s

St. Luke’s Church will be holding four wreath-decorating workshops Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23. Open to the public, the workshops will take place in Willard Hall at St. Luke’s Church, 313 Main St. in Chester. Funds raised will benefit both the church and the Chester Conservation Committee. Participants are encouraged to bring clippers. There will be decorations, wire, glue guns and light refreshments available.

Workshop sessions are: 6:30–8 p.m. Thursday Nov. 21; 9–10:30 a.m. and 1–2:30 p.m. Friday Nov. 22; and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday Nov. 22.

Class fee is $40 per wreath. Those who preregister by Tuesday Nov. 12 receive a 5 percent discount.
