Oct. 15: Medicare open enrollment runs through Dec. 7

Medicare’s Annual Open Enrollment period is Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. This is an opportunity for all Medicare beneficiaries to review their Medicare Drug Coverage and Medicare Advantage plans.

Enrollees may choose to remain in their current plan, or to switch plans if they find a choice that better meets their needs. And if their current plan is discontinued, open enrollment may be the only time to choose a different plan.

Medicare beneficiaries should ask these questions during Open Enrollment:

  • Is the cost (premium) of my plan changing?
  • Will my plan still cover the drugs I need?
  • Are there any drug restrictions?
  • How does my plan coordinate with any state or federal benefits?
  • Is there a plan that fits my needs better than my current one?

Free personalized advice is available for Vermont Medicare beneficiaries. Senior Solutions and the other Vermont Area Agencies on Aging help Vermonters learn everything they need to know about Medicare. Offerings include free classes, information by internet and personalized service by telephone.

Oct. 22: Free ‘Project Wild Thing’ film screening, discussion

In celebration of 25 years of operation, the Nature Museum at Grafton would like to thank the community with a free film screening and discussion of Project Wild Thing beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the News Bank Conference Center at 352 Main St., Chester.

The film is a two-hour documentary that takes a look at a complex issue — the increasingly disparate connection between children and nature.

An open discussion moderated by Bob Engel, Marlboro College professor emeritus of biology and environmental science, will follow the film along with a birthday cake.

The film is appropriate for older children and adults. Visit www.nature-museum.org for more information on the screening.

The Nature Museum offers hands-on natural history exhibits, nature programs for adults and children, as well as tours for schools and community groups. Information about other upcoming events can be found on the Nature Museum’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/naturemuseumatgrafton.
