A cappella group Big Woods Voices performs to benefit Stone Church Arts

The a cappella group, Big Woods Voices, performs to benefit Stone Church Arts

Oct. 17: A cappella quartet in Bellows Falls

Stone Church Arts presents Big Woods Voices — four veteran area singers celebrating their love for a cappella harmony — in a benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. The benefit concert will take place in the smaller Stone Church Arts venue, the Chapel, of Immanuel Episcopal Church, 20 Church St. in Bellows Falls.

The singers are, from soprano to bass: Liz Rogers, an internationally touring singer-songwriter who started out with the Metropolitan Opera’s child chorus; Becky Graber, leader of the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus, music director at the Putney School and the New England Youth Theater and a long-time teacher; Will Danforth, an award-winning, multi-instrumental solo acoustic artist; and Alan Blood, longtime member of groups such as the Blanche Moyse Chorale, I Cantori, Blue Moon, House Blend and others.

Seats are limited, so advance tickets are suggested. All proceeds benefit Stone Church Arts, now in its 11th season. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets in advance are $17 general admission, $13 for seniors and $35 best in house, reserved seating. Tickets at the door are $20 general and $15 for seniors. Advance tickets are available at Village Square Booksellers in Bellows Falls and online at www.stonechurcharts.org.

Families with children are encouraged to attend. Admission is free. Visit www.idamaespecker.com for more information.

Oct. 21: Musical benefits held for young artists

The Voice Movement Therapists invite the community to two nights of song with diversity of voices, styles and modes.

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., host Chris MacLean, noted Canadian singer/songwriter, will be joined by a talented musical line-up, including The Voice Movement Therapists, for a night of traditional and contemporary songs from around the world at Folk Night coffee house at the Village Green Gallery, 661 Main St., Weston. A $10 donation is suggested. The net proceeds will benefit the Elaine Raphael Arts Fund, which provides education and student mentoring programs for young artists.

At 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 23 Cabaret Night at the Weston Playhouse, 703 Main St., Weston will feature UK artists: blues/jazz singer Carol Grimes and rock/pop balladeer Melanie Harrold and Mali Sastri, a singer/songwriter from Boston, as well as Christine Isherwood. Emceed by Will Freeman, a suggested donation of $10 will benefit a local not-for-profit organization. New Thought Vermont and the International Association offer these two programs for Voice Movement Therapy.
