Sea to Shining Sea exhibit at Whiting through December

Whiting Library presents artist Wendy Hayward studies in oil, with landscapes from Maine to California.

The show runs until Wednesday, Dec. 30 at the library, 117 Main St. in Chester.

Hayward lives and works in Chester. She is a member of Vermont Watercolor Society, and the Arts Council of Windham County. The exhibit can be viewed during library hours: Monday and Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. For more information, call 802-875-2277.

Nov. 7:  Cavendish Book Jam kicks off in Proctorsville

The first Cavendish Book Jam will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Fletcher Community Library at 573 Main St. in Proctorsville. The afternoon will feature three Vermont writers talking about their books and their writing processes—Kathryn Bonnez, Archer Mayor and Brian Staveley. There is no charge for this event. The doors open at 12.30 p.m. and author talks will start at 1 p.m.

Kathryn Bonnez, a retired English as a Second Language Teacher, is an explorer whose first book, A Lone Star in the Green Mountains, allowed her to combine three of her passions: history, traveling and writing. She has a home in Chester.

Archer Mayor is a death investigator for Vermont’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, a detective for the Windham County Sheriff’s Office and a travel writer for AAA. Mayor’s latest Joe Gunther mystery is The Company She Kept.

Brian Staveley is the author of The Emperor’s Blades,  the first in the epic fantasy trilogy Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne. The Emperor’s Blades and the second in the series, The Providence of Fire, are available for purchase. The final volume, The Last Mortal Bond, will be released in 2016. He lives in Vermont with his wife and young son.

Nov. 7:  Premiere of  ‘Saxtons River Suite’ with VSO

On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8, Main Street Arts hosts the world premiere of the “Saxtons River Suite” composed by Carol Wood and performed by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Ensemble and the Counterpoint Chorus at 35 Main St. in Saxtons River.

The suite and the art curtains it inspired will be the center of a musical and visual tribute celebrating the village, its seasons and the beauty of the region throughout the year.

The Five Seasons Gala will begin with the premiere performance 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Heptebo Theater at Main Street Arts. Gala sponsorship tickets for this fund-raising event are $100 with Angel Sponsorships available at $250. Two community performances will be held on Sunday at 2 and 4:30 p.m. General Admission tickets for these performances is $10; with whole family $25. Nov. 8: Archer Mayor at Vermont Voices

Misty Valley Books’ Vermont Voices hosts Archer Mayor on Sunday Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the First Universalist Church in the Stone Village to share his work. A book signing and reception will follow the free event.

Mayor returns to Voices with his 26th Joe Gunther mystery, The Company She Kept.

Other Vermont Voice authors include: Greg Delanty author of So Little Time and Tim Stevenson author of Resilience and Resistance on Nov. 15; and on Nov. 22, Howard Frank Mosher author of God’s Kingdom.
