Nov. 13: GMUHS performs ‘Peter Pan’

Peter pan and wendyThe Green Mountain Union High School Drama Department’s Peter Pan and Wendy performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14, in the GMUHS auditorium at 716 Route 103S in Chester. There will be a 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 14. This non-musical is faithful to J.M. Barrie’s original novel.

Tickets are available at the doorat $5 for students and seniors, $7 for adults, and $15 for family rate.

Prior to the play on Friday night, the sophomore class is serving a spaghetti dinner, drink and dessert for $7 per person. For families of 5 or more the per person price is $5. Dinner will be served in the school cafeteria from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 15: Climate crisis in poetry, image and activism at Vermont Voices

resilenceAt 2 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 15, two Vermont author/activists will join forces to discuss the climate crisis and the environment through different lenses at First Universalist Church, 211 North St. in Chester’s Stone Village. A book signing and reception will follow this free event, part of Misty Valley Books Vermont Voices series.

Poet Greg Delanty, author of So Little Time: Words and Images for a World in Climate Crisis, will bring a compendium of poetry and photography that features his work along with poetry from other authors and quotes from environmentalists. Delanty, born in Ireland, is a professor at St. Michael’s College in Winooski.

Tim Stevenson, author of Resilience and Resistance: Building Sustainable Communities for a Post Oil Age, is the founding director of Post Oil Solutions and has been a community organizer for many years. He lives in Athens.

The final Vermont Voice on Nov. 22 is Howard Frank Mosher, author of 13 books, the latest of which is God’s Kingdom.

Mary Poppins runs live on stage at the new Barrette Center for the Arts at 74 Gates St. in White River Junction, Nov. 18 through Jan. 3.

The opening performance on Saturday, Nov. 21  begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by a complimentary post-show reception with the cast.

Mary Poppins is recommended for ages 5 and up. Matinees at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. will be offered to encourage families to attend the performance together. Visit the website for the full schedule and performance times.

As part of the Athena Series, a free companion event will be presented designed to promote dialogue between audience members and theater professionals. It will be held in the Byrne Theater at the Barrette Center for the Arts on Sunday, Nov. 22 from 12:30–1:30 p.m. Steve Swayne, professor of music at Dartmouth College, will lead the conversation.
