Feb. 17: Learn collage at Whiting Library

On Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the Whiting Library at 117 Main St. in Chester offers a collage workshop. All ages are welcome to take a favorite sport, pet, game or activity and create a picture. Younger artists should be accompanied by a helper. The library is open Monday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. For more information call 802-875-2277 or email whitinglibrary@yahoo.com.

Feb. 17: Financing energy projects addressed

The voters of Rockingham must approve establishing a Property Assessed Clean Energy District at the town’s Annual Meeting on Feb. 29 to become eligible for financing options to assist with home energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

On Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m., learn about two of those financing options at the Rockingham Library, 65 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls.

Mark Kelly of Efficiency Vermont will speak about PACE, including providing the capital and processing of all applications, billing and payments. Laurie Fielder and Lisa DiBernardo of Vermont State Employee Credit Union will speak to the benefits of the Heat Saver Loan. Feb. 18: Essential oils presentation set

Join friends and neighbors at the Meeting Place at 5700 Vermont 100 in Londonderry at Neighborhood Connections at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 for a “Health Bodies: Boost Healing and Feel Better” presentation to learn to improve physical and emotional well-being using essential oils and aromatherapy.

This is the second in a series of lectures by Gail Mann, yoga teacher and wellness coach of YogaUnbound, based on her extensive research and experience with essential oils. There is no charge to attend, but reservations are necessary. Call 802-824-4343.

Neighborhood Connections is a community-based non-profit social services agency serving individuals and families in the area mountain towns of south-central Vermont.

Feb. 18: Work of Maya Angelou discussed

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, Vermont Humanities Council Scholar Deborah Lee Luskin will facilitate a discussion of Maya Angelou’s work at the Rockingham Library, 65 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls.

This program is free and open to the public. Maya Angelou’s memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings of growing up African-American in 1930s Arkansas is by turns poignant, funny and devastatingly horrific.

Feb. 19: Grounded performs at coffeehouse

Grounded4Life coffeehouse’s house band returns for an evening of praise and worship at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 in the lower level of the Chester Baptist Church, 162 Main St., Chester. Admission is free. The group will be sharing some new material along with favorites.

Feb. 19: Family Skate Night with Collaborative

From 8-9:30 p.m. on Friday Feb. 19, the Collaborative is sponsoring Family Skate Night at Riley Rink at Hunter Park, 410 Hunter Park Road, Manchester Center. Bring the whole family for a fun, relaxed night of ice-skating. Families of four will get in at the discounted rate of $25, or $10 per person with skate rentals included.

The Collaborative is a substance abuse prevention nonprofit promoting the development of a healthy, involved community, supporting substance free youth in a caring environment serving the Manchester and Mountain communities. Feb. 22: ‘View from Table Rock’ rescheduled

The postponed film “The View From Table Rock” at Rockingham Library has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at 65 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls.

The documentary by Lyle Sorensen begins with a look at two antique Bird’s Eye View lithographs depicting Bellows Falls from Fall Mountain in the 1800s. It then shows how a unique rock formation overlooking Bellows Falls offered artists a vantage point that hikers still visit by exploring Bellows Falls as it is today and in the past.

A discussion with videographer Sorensen and local resident Marguerite Janiszyn will follow the film. Larry Clark and Annette Sorensen, who were both instrumental in creating this film, will also be on hand to answer questions and share related archival items.

Feb. 23: Learn to ID animals in nature

A winter landscape offers an opportunity to identify wild animals that have been in the area. Identifying animals by their tracks can be easy, but it is also deceptively tricky.

At 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, Rick Ladue, from the Equinox Preservation Trust, will discuss how to identify animals in the wild at The Meeting Place at Neighborhood Connections at 5700 Vermont 100, Londonderry. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited, so call 802-824-4343 to make a reservation.
