Listen to the inspirational music of Teen Challenge at Grounded for Life

Join Grounded4Life for a night of free music by the Teen Challenge Choir Friday, June 3 in the lower level of the Chester Baptist Church, 162 Main St., Chester. The choir is comprised of students of Teen Challenge ministry, which helps youth, adults, and families who are struggling with drugs, alcohol, and other life-controlling problems. In addition to music, the students will share their transformative experiences.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with food, coffee, fellowship and conversation. The program begins at 7 p.m.

June 3 & 4: Gathering of Friends and Classmates event in Chester

Chester’s American Legion Unit #67 hosts a two-day a Gathering of Friends and Classmates event on the first weekend in June for the Green Mountain Union High School’s alumni. The event kicks off with an Alumni Social on Friday evening, June 3 at the Chester American Legion on Route 103 South across from Green Mountain High School. Contact the Alumni Association at chsgmuhsalumni.org/contact.php for Friday’s schedule.

On Saturday, June 4, a parade takes place from Elm Street up Main Street to Cobleigh Field, on Cobleigh Street. Parade line up is 10 a.m. at Elm Street and step off is 11 a.m. There is still time to enter to march in the parade. This year’s theme is “OPEN.” To enter, contact Jon Clark 802-353-6043. Winners will be announced at the barbeque.

A Barbeque Banquet will be held at the Chester American Legion Field immediately following the parade. Admission is $10/pp payable on the day of the event. Children age 12 and under are free.
The Alumni Annual Meeting will be held at 3 p.m. inside the Chester American Legion.

Alumni member dues of $10 are due. These, as well as a donation to the Scholarship Fund; 50/50 Raffle Tickets ($5 a ticket); and any other donations may be sent to: CHS/GMUHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 882, Chester, VT. 05143.

Step into the past and explore cellar holes in Grafton

walk to some intriguing ruins from the small settlement of Old Grafton. Cellar holes are excavated pits that retain the foundation stones of their previous structures. A key to the cultural history of an area, they reveal a lot about the people who made them and used them in their daily lives.

For more information on the cellar holes and other cultural and historic resources check out the booklet by Robert Sanford and Don and Nina Huffer entitled Stonewalls & Cellarholes: A Guide for Landowners on Historic Features and Landscapes in Vermont’s Forests  published by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation.

Participants are encouraged to wear waterproof shoes and bring a camera and water. The group will meet at the parking lot opposite The Nature Museum, 176 Townshend Road in Grafton, to carpool. Register for the program by calling Beverly Major at 802-387-5737.

June 4: Cheese Tasting at Vermont Country Store

Sample cheeses made at The Plymouth Cheese Factory in Plymouth from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Vermont County Store in Weston. One of the oldest cheese operations in the United States, it was founded by John Coolidge, father of President Calvin Coolidge. June 5: Chester Rotary Golf Tournament

Chester’s Rotary Club hosts its 6th annual golf tournament at noon on Sunday, June 5 at Tater Hill Golf Club at 6802 Popple Dungeon Road in Windham.

Entry to the event costs $125 for each player or $400 for a foursome. Proceeds from the tournament go to Chester Rotary Club charities and the Green Mountain High School Scholarship Fund.

Prizes will be awarded for the winning team, the longest drive and closest to the pin. Participants have an opportunity to win a new Subaru for a hole in one.
