July 1: Edgar May holds free summer scavenger hunt

Edgar-mayThe Edgar May Health and Recreation Center is launching a Summer Family Fun Scavenger Hunt.

The free hunt is open to members and non-member families. Beginning on Friday, July 1 and concluding Aug. 26, there are eight weeks to participate in your choice of more than 30 activities and to share photos on social media or via email.

Scavenger Hunt participants accumulating 100 or more points are eligible for an entry in the grand prize drawing for a 12-month family membership package that includes additional services: group fitness and exercise classes; swimming lessons; and a birthday party package with a total value of $1,600.

In addition to the grand prize, two monthly drawings will be held for one-month family memberships ($78 value) for all families that share photos of four completed activities during that month. Local businesses are also sponsoring specific activities with special prize drawings.

Join Grounded4Life for a night of music with Andy Brothers. Brothers, a member of Grounded, will perform solo at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 1 on lower level of the Chester Baptist Church, 162 Main St. in Chester.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with food, coffee, fellowship and conversation. The program is free. Check oitsut the Grounded4Life Facebook page and their grounded4lifevt.org website.

Attend a book signing as part of the CHA Plant sale

For 40 years, the Saturday before the 4th of July is marked by the Cavendish Historical Society’s Annual Plant Sale. From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 2, shoppers can purchase hostas, mock orange shrubs, herbs, raspberry plants and patio tomato plants at the Cavendish Historical Society Museum, 1958 Main St., Route 131, in Cavendish.

The event includes a book signing of CHS’s latest publication Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: The Writer Who Changed History. The first children’s book ever written on Cavendish’s famous resident, the book is suitable for all ages.
