July 20: Sensible Shoes performs in Proctorsville

Sensible Shoes

The Town of Cavendish and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association host an evening of music with Sensible Shoes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20 on the Proctorsville Green.

Sensible Shoes includes Barbara Blaisdell on keyboard, lead guitarist and singer Tim Utt, Pooh Sprague, on bass, guitar and vocals, and drummer and singer Steve Drebber.  Bring a blanket or a comfortable chair, picnic, or relax on the grass.

July 21: Kleeman’s band returns to Chester Concert Series

On Thursday, July 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Chris Kleeman and his band return to the lawn of the Academy Building, 230 Main St., in downtown Chester for the Chester Summer Concert Series.

The group will perform some of Kleeman’s own tunes, as well as old traditional and Chicago-style blues.

Bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Next week’s concert on Thursday, July 28 is The Starline Rhythm Boys.

July 23: Art show in Fourth Corner in Windham

The Fourth Corner Foundation Gallery hosts an art opening for a new show from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at 578 Hitchcock Hill Road in Windham. Beer, wine and snacks will be served.

The contemporary group show includes the work of eight artists: Maria Kretchmann, Riki Moss, Katie Loesel, Erica Lawlor Schmidt, Kristen Partesi, Cynthia Rosen, Sabrina Fadial, Carolyn Enz Hack.

This show will run through Aug. 14.

July 24: Counterpoint sings  changing seasons

In July, Vermont’s professional vocal ensemble Counterpoint joins pianist Alison Cerutti in Seasons, a celebration of the changes of the year. The performance is at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24 at The Church on the Hill on Lawrence Hill Road in Weston. Admission is $5 for all seats.

The program includes the complete Estaciones Portenas, a set of four tangos by Astor Piazzoll and “Early Morning Mists,” a cantata by composer Yehezkel Braun setting his own seasonal haiku. In addition will be works by Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms, songs from Broadway’s Golden Age and a selection works depicting Vermont’s seasonal cycle by local composers Sara Doncaster, Peter Hamlin, Erik Nielsen, Kevin Quigley and Carol Wood.

Benjamin Scheuer presents his one-man show ‘The Lion’

July 25: Benefit concert with Benjamin Scheuer

Singer/songwriter Benjamin Scheuer returns to Weston’s MainStage at 12 Park St. for a special performance at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 25.

Scheuer is the creator and performer of the one-man show The Lion, which won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance when it premiered off-Broadway. Developed in part at a Weston Artist Retreat, The Lion is touring the United States through February 2017.

Audiences are encouraged to stay for a reception immediately following the concert to meet the artist. Tickets for the event are $35 and can be purchased online at westonplayhouse.org or by calling the Box Office at 802-824-5288.

Proceeds help to support Weston’s mission to produce a diverse, entertaining and challenging season of live professional theater and high impact events, enrich the theater-going experience with education and outreach programs for all ages and make significant contributions to the American theater through training programs, play development and retreats.
