Beginning Aug. 1 and running through October, the Flat Iron Exchange at 51 The Square in Bellows Falls showcases the photography of Jimmy ienner Jr.

The exhibit of abstract and landscape photography has been years in the making. His images represent the old railroad and old mills in Bellows Falls, including some shots taken just across the river in New Hampshire at the Historic Round House.

Meet the artist at an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, in conjunction with Bellows Falls Third Friday events. Chocolates, ice cream and other treats are planned. Local musician Josh Maiocco will perform during the evening.

Partial proceeds to benefit The Preservation Trust of Vermont projects within the town of Rockingham.

Aug. 3: Chris Kleeman performs in Proctorsville

On Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. the Vermont-based master blues singer, Chris Kleeman performs at the Cavendish summer music series on The Green in Proctorsville.

The performance is part of a continuing series of Wednesday evening public concerts presented by town of Cavendish and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association. Relax in the grass on a blanket or lawn chair, have a picnic or just listen to the music.

The concert is free and open to everyone. Rain dates will be announced on the Cavendish Facebook page. For more information, call Robin at 802-226-7736.

Aug. 4: Piano music and ‘Name that Tune’ in Mt. Holly

Jamie Ward, performs a free outdoor piano concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4 in the center of Mt. Holly of Route 103 on The Village Green across from the Belmont General store. Ward plays classic Motown, hits of the ’60s and Beatles, Bowie and blues. Ward does a few humorous originals about the great state of Vermont. The rain venue is across the street.

Grab a blanket, a chair and get there early to take part in the 2nd annual “Name-That-Tune” music contest sponsored by the Belmont General Store. If you can correctly write down the 10 pieces of music that Ward plays in a four minute sampler—you could win a Belmont Store Deluxe Hamburger.

Other upcoming acts in August are: Casey Solomon on Aug. 11; Limbo Lounge on Aug. 18 or the Mt. Holly Folk club on Aug. 27.

Aug. 4: Dave Keller returns to Chester concert series

On Thursday, Aug. 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Dave Keller and his band return to the lawn of the Academy Building on the green in Chester to play soulful music on a summer evening.

For the final concert of the summer season, Cold Chocolate will play for the first time in the series. It has a sound that fuses bluegrass and dash of funk from 6:30–8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Bring blankets and/or lawn chairs and enjoy summer evening of music in Chester.

In case of rain, the Dave Keller concert will be held at the American Legion, Route 103S across from Green Mountain Union High School.

Aug. 4: Broadway’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ at Weston Playhouse

hits, “Mamma Mia!” on the MainStage, 12 Park St., in Weston from Thursday, Aug. 4 through Saturday, Aug. 20. Showtimes are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

The story unfolds on a Greek island paradise when a daughter’s quest to discover her father’s identity brings three men from her mother’s past to the island they visited together 20 years before. The show brims with love, laughter and friendship, propelled by the songs of ABBA.

Christopher Lloyd is honored at Weston Playhouse dinner

Weston Playhouse Theatre Company honors actor Christopher Lloyd with a star-studded evening of special guests including Judd Hirsch and Samuel Lloyd Jr. at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Weston Honors takes place at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, 930 SVAC Drive in Manchester. The evening features live entertainment from the 2016 Weston Company, as well as live and video tributes. Following the event, there’s an opportunity for a private dinner with Christopher Lloyd and special guests.

Lloyd’s theater career began on the Weston Playhouse stage with “A Shot in the Dark” in 1964. He went on to perform in more than 200 plays on and off Broadway, as well as continuing to star in roles at Weston, such as “Sherlock Holmes” (1990) and, most recently, “Death of a Salesman” (2010). His film career has included roles in both classic favorites and cult hits including “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “Clue,” “The Addams Family,” and Doc Brown in the “Back to the Future” trilogy.

Aug. 10: Yankee Chank finishes Proctorsville series

The Town of Cavendish presents the last in its series of Wednesday evening concerts at 6 p.m. Aug. 10 when Yankee Chank performs on the Green in Proctorsville.

Yankee Chank is a Vermont group that performs Cajun and Zydeco music from the heart of southwest Louisiana. The band’s performances offer a distinctive immersion into this unique regional music.

This is the last in a series of six concerts coordinated by the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring a blanket or a chair and a picnic dinner.
