Manaslu Gurung, right, and Chris Holme

Chester Rotary’s First Thursday talk for March will feature Manaslu Gurung and her husband Chris Holme, who attended Green Mountain Union High. They will offer stories and perspectives on development in Nepal.

Manaslu was born and raised in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. In 2008 she worked for the United Nations in far western Nepal where she visited schools in remote mountain villages accessible only by foot or helicopter.

She will share stories from the teachers, children and parents that she met that will illustrate the challenges of improving access to quality education in Nepal. The couple spent a year in Nepal in 2015, traveling from Everest to Annapurna and volunteering with local development organizations, including relief from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake of April 25, 2015 in which nearly 9,000 died.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar is available. Please RSVP to the email above.
