Volunteers ready Grateful Garden for planting

On Saturday, May 18, a number of families came together to clean up the Grateful Garden beds, on the Chester-Andover Elementary School campus, transforming them from weed-infested to ready-to-plant beds. Along the way, says Grateful Garden founder Carrie King, the volunteers met beetles, toads, old potatoes, rocks, worms and favorite perennials like asparagus, lemon balm, lilies, garlic and peonies.

The beds are awaiting the next Grateful Garden event — the CAES Health Fair on Friday, May 31, when planting will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. King says volunteers can come for a short shift or stay all daylong.

The Grateful Garden is grateful to all the families who pitched in on Saturday: the Araces, Bryans, Cherubinis, Colburns, Hinkles, Kelleys, Kings and Svecs. Click on any photo to launch the gallery.
