Superintendent Layne Millington was a finalist for the same post at another Washington Central UUSD until he pulled out on Saturday.
After hearing early Monday morning that Millington had dropped out, The Telegraph called the WCUUSD administration office and received confirmation of the withdrawal. Just before 10 a.m., The Telegraph then texted Millington for a statement or comment but received no response. This afternoon, however, a source sent us a copy of an email from Millington, which he sent to “All” with the subject line “Follow Up.” That email, which was sent at 12:38 p.m. on Monday read:
“Hello Everyone,
I wanted to let you know that on Saturday I formally withdrew my name for the Washington Central position. After reflecting on the situation and recognizing the concern that it caused here at TRSU, I decided it was not the right match for me nor the right time to pursue a change”
Millington was scheduled to tour that district’s schools on Tuesday, Aug. 18 with the other finalist, Heather Bouchey, followed by he traditional meetings with district leadership teams and “meet and greets” with the community. A decision was expected by the end of the month. But now Millington’s decision has short circuited that plan. Attempts to reach several people on Washington Central’s search committee were unsuccessful.
In its search announcement, that district cited the salary range for the job as $160,000 to $175,000. Millington’s current TRSU salary is $165,485, according to a two-year contract signed in February. The contract runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028.
