GMUHS’s O’Neil named VT counselor of year; Chester Dems elect new officers; Aegis Wind expands

Pam O’Neil, guidance director for Green Mountain Union High and counselor for grades 10, 11 and 12, has been named the 2013 recipient of the James F. Cawley Award as the Outstanding Vermont School Counselor of the Year by the Vermont School Counselor Association.

The VSCA is a statewide organization that, according to its website, advocates for the need and interests of school counselors and their students.

O’Neil, who lives with her husband and two children in Ludlow, is one of  about 400 public school counselors throughout the state of Vermont.

The former headmaster of the Okemo Mountain School, began working at GMUHS in 2006, after earning her BA in psychology and a minor in management from Wheaton College and her master’s in education in school counseling and consultation from Keene State.

Of the recognition, O’Neil said, “You are always so proud of the people who win these awards. And when you receive it, you are so humbled, knowing all the work that they do. I accept it on behalf of every other counselor in the state who is doing great things and showing the kids in the state all the opportunities that they may not know are available to them. Working with the kids — and my supportive staff and administration — every day is the biggest reward.”

The award is presented in recognition of distinguished contributions to school counseling and to acknowledge and honor those instrumental in bringing outstanding innovations to the development of counseling to Vermont youth.

 New officers for Chester Town Democratic Committee

The Chester Town Democratic Committee reorganized during its Democratic Caucus held on Thursday Sept. 19, 2013.  Elected to serve as officers for the ensuing term are Bill Dakin, chair; Kathy Pellett, vice chair; Lynne Cannon, secretary; and John Holme Jr., treasurer.

Aegis Wind expands to all renewables
