Free parenting workshops offered at Whiting Library

T o promote positive communication and cooperation between parents, caregivers and teens and to give parents a skill set to support their child to make healthy decisions, The Collaborative is offering a parent workshop. The classes will be taught by Nancy Pennell, who has more than 35 years’ experience working with children and young adults as director of Aloha Camp and as facilitator of local parenting groups.

Guiding Good Choices is a series of six classes starting Monday, Feb. 23 and running consecutively through March 30. Classes are held from 6 to 8 p.m. This workshop teaches skills sets to families with youth ages 9 to 14. Topics covered include setting clear expectations and consequences, managing conflict, strengthening family bonds and increasing youth’s skills to resist peer pressure and make healthy decisions.

The workshop is free and open to parents, caring adults and guardians and will be held at Whiting Library, 117 Main St. in Chester. Participants will receive workbook materials, a parent resource packet and a certificate of completion.

Space is limited. Call The Collaborative at 802-824-4200 to register. Childcare is available upon registration.  This workshop is presented by The Collaborative and the Vermont Department of Health.
