School Choice applications due Feb. 14; host families sought for foreign exchange program

Green Mountain Union High School and area high schools are now accepting applications for School Choice.

Any high school student interested in attending a public school out of his home district for the 2015-16 school year must submit a Vermont School Choice Application to the home district principal in person or post-marked no later than Saturday,  Feb. 14, 2015.

Once the home district principal receives the application and it has been approved, the application is sent to the receiving school principal for processing.  If the number of applications exceeds the incoming School Choice student limit, a lottery will take place to determine which students are accepted. Those not accepted will be put on a waiting list.

Families will be notified in writing by Wednesday, April 1.  The family must notify the accepting school principal by April 15 to hold the spot for the student.

Applications are available in the school office at Green Mountain Union High School. To request an application or if you have any questions please contact Anne Morton at GMUHS: 802-875-2146 or anne.morton@trsu.org

Families sought to host GMUHS foreign exchange students

Hoping to bring back a valuable program to the Green Mountain community, PAX, the Program of Academic Exchange, is looking for families to host students for the 2015-16 academic school year. These young adventurers will arrive at the end of August, from one of more than 80 countries. They hope to spend a full academic year here, becoming a member of a family, sharing cultures, improving their English, and creating lifelong memories with their new communities.

PAX is looking for families who can host a student for a whole or half academic year. A host family should be ready to share their lives with a PAX student as if this child were its own son or daughter. This means providing the student with a bed and quiet place to study, three quality meals a day, transportation to and from school activities and the love and support a teenager will need while adapting to life in the the United States.

If you would like to host a student for the upcoming year, or have questions, please give Kimberly Eckhardt a call at 802-824-3792, or email keckhardt08@gmail.com.
