Gregory Allen Smith of Springfield, who was wanted for the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Wesley Wing in Springfield on Saturday, April 18, was captured by police in a trailer in a South Londonderry, Vt., campground this morning, Thursday, April 23.

Gregory Allen Smith mug1Soon after Wing’s killing, Springfield police began searching for a black Infiniti with Vermont plates, which police found abandoned in Keene, N.H. On Tuesday, police arrested a 29-year-old Keene, N.H., woman, Kristin Walsh, on felony counts of  hindering apprehension and witness tampering  in an effort to help Smith avoid arrest Wing’s death.

Keene Police allege that Walsh attempted to coerce other witnesses and tried to arrange a plan to elude police and get Smith out of the state, then lied to police about where Smith was. Charges came as a result of the Keene Police Department’s investigation. Walsh was being held as the Cheshire County House of Corrections and will be arraigned Wednesday morning when bail will be set.

Police then said that Smith was driving a stolen white 2004 Buick Rendezvous bearing New Hampshire plates.

This morning, Smith, was taken into custody without incident along with Wendy Morris, 25,  also of Springfield. Investigation by Springfield Police and the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit led police to this location. Both Smith and Morris are currently in custody and being processed.  It is unknown when either will appear in court.  The Telegraph will update this story as information becomes available.
