To the editor: Food and Nutritional Services thrives at GMUHS

Letters to the editor logoI would like to begin by announcing the addition to our staff of Sous Chef Josh Adams. Josh began working this summer in our successful Summer Meals Program.

He now works daily as lead person in our kitchen preparing not only food for our breakfast program but for lunch as well. He has been training for the position and doing a great job. Josh has introduced some new breakfast and lunch items the kids have loved. He seems to have a real love for his work and also enjoys the kids.

I like to think that Josh has been the driving force behind our ever-growing breakfast program. The number of children coming in to have a healthy breakfast seems to be increasing weekly. We have been offering many new items for the children to try and they seem to be enjoying them. Our breakfast program is doing better than ever. We all know how important a good breakfast is. The cost of breakfast is still a mere $1.50. So, save yourself some time in the morning and have the kids eat breakfast right here.

Our lunches are great as well. We offer the hot meal of the day and many other options to help the kids make healthy choices. We offer our huge fruit and veggie bar with every meal every day. Our deli bar offers assorted cold sandwiches everyday also. We need to offer many items in an effort to help the children receive a good meal to sustain them for the balance of the day. The cost for lunch now is $2.75. If you have any questions or need to know your child’s account balance please call the kitchen anytime.

We are still entertaining local senior citizens the first Wednesday of every month with a great lunch. December’s menu will feature roast loin of pork. We serve at noon right in the cafeteria. The folks love to interact with the kids. Everyone is welcome!

I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season.

Sincerely,
Jack Carroll
