Vermont State Police incident reports for Oct. 3-Oct. 29, 2015

Editor’s Note: The Vermont State Police incident report is a sampling of incidents directly from Vermont State Police. We do not identify individual victims of crimes nor those who have been arrested.

Saturday Oct. 3 , Andover – A resident of Andover Ridge Road reported that a valuable antique duck decoy had been stolen from a garage sale.  A man who had been haggling over the price of the decoy was described as “hinky” by a family member of the complainant. That family member took a photo of the man’s pick up truck including a Connecticut license plate. According to Vermont State Police, Connecticut authorities do not have records for that plate.

Monday Oct. 5, Landgrove – State police responded to a Landgrove address to take a report of the theft of ladders from a job site. On investigation, it was learned that the property owner had moved the ladders into a barn to keep them from being stolen.

Wednesday Oct. 7, Peru – A resident of Peru reported a large plasma screen television was stolen from his apartment while he was away for three days. The theft was from a multi-unit apartment building on Route 11 and there were no signs of forced entry.

Friday Oct. 9, Peru – The caretaker of a seasonal residence on Little Michigan Road in Peru found that the back door of the house had been kicked in. A metal sign or signs appear to be all that was taken.

Saturday Oct. 10, Jamaica – Between 9 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday,, someone broke into Fran’s Kitchen at Routes 100 and 30 in Jamaica. The rear entrance was pried open and change was taken from a cash register and from donation jars along with items from a purse. A neighboring business, Meulemans’ Craft Drafts, was also burglarized. Rolls of change were taken there.

Thursday Oct. 15, Weston – Someone broke into the Weston Town Clerk’s office overnight, forcing open desks and cabinets. A small lock-box was taken from a desk. An anonymous passerby found the box later by the side of a road and turned it in. The box had been pried open, but nothing was taken.

Thursday Oct. 15, Andover – The Andover Town Clerk’s office was burglarized overnight. Entry was made through an unlocked window but nothing was taken.

Thursday Oct. 15, Londonderry – Would-be thieves broke into a garden center on Route 11, forcing entry by prying open a rear door. No cash was kept in the building and nothing else was taken.

Thursday Oct. 15, Londonderry – Someone broke into a veterinary clinic on Route 100 in Londonderry. There was no other narrative in the report.

Friday Oct. 16, Rockingham – Police responded to the report of theft and vandalism on Upper Bartonsville Road. The complaint seems to stem from a dispute over an estate.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, Cavendish – State Police received a report of batteries being stolen from a vehicle while it was located at a gravel pit.

Thursday, Oct. 22, Londonderry – The owner of a camp on Little Pond Road reported that 200 to 250 gallons of heating oil was missing. His 275-gallon tank was nearly empty on Oct. 16 and was filled thereafter. When he discovered it was almost empty again he reported a leak to the fuel dealer. The oil dealer said that there was no leak. It appears that the oil was siphoned from the tank.

Saturday, Oct. 24, Cavendish — A resident reported being a victim of fraud and identity theft saying that an out-of-state loan processor had used personal information to secure money that was then spent in Florida. The VSP is in contact with authorities in the states where the alleged fraud took place.

Thursday, Oct. 29, Rockingham — A resident of Parker Hill Road complained that his mailbox was hit overnight, damaging the mail and newspaper boxes. The complainant described the road as a “racetrack.” The responding trooper confirmed that the boxes were damaged, but reported that the damage was minor.
