Wednesday, Aug. 3, Londonderry – At about 10:27 a.m. a driver stopped at Wayne’s Auto on Main Street in Londonderry.  After parking for a short time, the driver drove into a parked car then drove behind Wayne’s to turn around. Workers tried to keep him from leaving, but he got back onto VT11.  Witnesses said he appeared to be drunk. A witness followed the car until it stopped in the parking lot of the Bromley Market in Peru.  The driver got out of his car, urinated in the parking lot, fell down – hitting his head – then tried to get back into his car.  A witness kept him getting into his vehicle until Winhall Police and State Police arrived.  He was arrested and cited for DUI and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

He was attempting to use the GPS on his cellphone and veered off the right side of the roadway. The truck traveled onto the grass then rolled onto its side after hitting a steep embankment. The truck landed on the driver side of the vehicle and completely blocked both lanes of RT 11. Even though the truck was empty, the roadway was closed for two hours until it could be towed away. Carpenter had bumps and bruises but did not seek medical attention. He was issued a ticket for using an electronic device while operating a vehicle.

Charles Dumont had been operating a flatbed/boom truck and was delivering cement landscaping blocks to a residence. While attempting to maneuver the truck into a driveway, the brake system lost air and Dumont could not get the truck into gear. The truck rolled down the steep hill and rolled onto its side. Dumont received minor lacerations to the arm and was transported to Springfield Hospital for evaluation.

  1. Hey Wayne,
Everything that gets called in gets logged whether a trooper goes out to the scene or just makes a phone call. We assemble a”sampling” of calls and sometimes we pick a silly one.

  2. Wayne says:

I’m not sure I quite understand. The police are using resources because someone used their driveway to turn around? Why is that worth not only going through a trail-cam to find, but calling the cops for?
