This handmade rug is being raffled off by the Chester-Andover Family Center.

The Chester-Andover Family Center Thrift Shop is raffling off a 3 foot by 4 foot hand-braided wool rug. The rug will be on display during September and October at People’s United Bank, 57 S. Main St., Chester.

The rug will also be on display during the CAFC Election Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 26 (Primary Election) and Tuesday Nov. 4 (General Election) at the Chester Town Hall, 556 Elm St.  Raffle tickets will be on sale on both dates as well.

Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6; and the drawing will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Edie Brown, a CAFC board member and volunteer, created the rug, which she braided with wool fabric, mostly recycled from blankets and clothing that were no longer usable.  Brown was taught the technique by her husband’s grandmother 40 years ago, and her family still has some of the rugs their grandmother braided 75 years ago.

Proceeds from the raffle will go to the center to support its mission of providing a helping hand to persons and families in need. Thrift Shop hours are: Tuesday, 10 to 4, Wednesday, 1 to 7, Friday, 10 to 4, and Saturday, 9 to 2. Here’s how to reach the center: 908 VT Route 103 South (P. O. Box 302), Chester, VT 05143, 802-875-3236, email: cafc302@gmail.com, and website www.chester-andoverfamilycenter.org For updates and photos check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/chesterandoverfamilycenter
