Volunteer Medicare navigators sought; BRGNS Food Shelf needs filling

Help seniors navigate Medicare system

The State Health Insurance Program at Senior Solutions needs volunteers to help meet the ever-growing demand for guidance on Medicare and complementary assistance programs.

As part of the SHIP crew serving southeastern Vermont, volunteers will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local people, and work with a professional team in Springfield. Various schedule options are available.

There are a number of volunteer tasks to choose from including client contact, clerical, outreach and special projects. Basic PC skills and phone communication skills are a plus.

Insurance agents, insurance brokers and financial planners are not eligible to serve as SHIP volunteers. Senior Solutions is a nonprofit organization. For more information or to volunteer, contact our Senior HelpLine at 1-800-642-5119 or info@seniorsolutionsvt.org.

BRGNS Food Shelf in need of filling

B lack River Good Neighbor Services continues to provide food and other assistance to those who need a helping hand, even in the summer when many of the food shelf’s donors are away. “To compound the problem, we are in between food drives,” said executive director Audrey Bridge.

Summer donations will help fill the food shelves. BRGNS purchases fresh and frozen food, but rely heavily on donations of canned and other packaged foods. It has an immediate need for canned fruit, any kind of soup, spaghetti sauce and baked beans. Bring the non-perishable food items to the food shelf at 37B Main St. in Ludlow.

Located behind the Community Center and thrift store. For additional information or to volunteer, call Bridge at 802-228-3663.
