Sarah Wells of Chester was recently named to the Castleton University field hockey team for the 2015 season. The Spartans went 2-15 last season, while recording a 2-3 record in conference play to earn a trip to the North Atlantic Conference semifinals. Castleton returns 12 players from a season ago.

Wells also was named Corvias ECAC Division III Rookie of the Week in the New England Region for field hockey following a strong opening-week performance. She was a key piece of the Castleton offense, racking up seven points on two goals and three assists in her first week of collegiate action. The rookie tallied two assists in her first career game at Union (N.Y.), followed up by a two-goal, one-assist performance against Rivier College in the Spartans’ home opening 7-2 win.

She was also named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week for field hockey for the week ending Sept. 6. She was vital to the offense, racking up seven points in just two games on the way to earning Rookie of the Week honors. The freshman tallied two assists in her first career game at Union and then followed up by a two-goal, one-assist performance against Rivier in the Spartans’ home-opening 7-2 win.
