Local Jr. Iron Chefs win at competition;
Chester Fall Festival 2016 accepting vendor applications

Green Mountain Union’s high school and middle school teams took home wins at Saturday’s 9th Annual Jr. Iron Chef competition held the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. This statewide culinary competition challenges teams of middle and high school students to create healthy, local dishes that inspire school meal programs. This year, 17 middle school and 16 high school teams competed.

Green Mountain’s high school team — the GM Cheftains made up of Chelsea Rose, Alexandra Pippin, Caitlin McCoy and Simone Martorano — won the Local Lively Award for using local ingredients.

The middle school team, dubbed The Skillet Takes and made up of Ange Wunderle, Laurel King, Rileigh Thomas, Gwen Kekic and Pearl Myers — won the Mise en Place award for organization and teamwork, an award the team also won last year.

The teams were coached by Jack Carroll, Christine Anderson, Jana Bryan and Carrie King.

Chester Fall Festival 2016 seeks vendors

Applications are available for Chester’s annual Fall Festival on the Green, which takes place Sept. 17–18.

High quality artists and craftspeople creating handmade work in New England are encouraged to participate. Applications are due by April 1. Download an application and guidelines at www.chesterfallfestival.org.

Participating vendors will be listed on the Fall Festival website. If your Chester business or organization is planning a special event for that weekend, let the Fall Festival Committee of Rotary Club of Chester know and it will do its best to include it in publicity.
