To the editor: Melody Reed announces run for Vermont House

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the residents of Chester, Andover, Baltimore and North Springfield – and to let you know I’ve taken the first step in my quest to become your next state representative. It was not a spur of the moment decision, but rather one that I’ve given considerable thought.

Melody ReedThis election season promises to be a busy one and you will be hearing from many candidates. So I would briefly like to tell you about myself, and why I am running for the legislature.

I was born and raised in the area (Springfield, Ludlow) and have lived in Chester for over 10 years. I raised my children – twin daughters Chelsea and Charity and son Keegan in Vermont. I’m delighted to say they continue to live and work in our great state.

I love my community and state and I want to preserve the wonderful quality of life we enjoy. However, we have many challenges – as a state and as a community – and I promise to work hard in Montpelier on issues that affect us all.

School taxes continue to rise and burdens many of us, especially young families and those on fixed incomes. It’s been a growing concern for as long as I can remember. I know the solution isn’t easy or simple, but maybe it’s time for some new ideas and different ways to approach this unsustainable taxation. Affordable health care, affordable housing, a more robust economy (jobs) are other areas that we urgently need to address, and I would like to be part of the team that works to find solutions to our problems.

In the coming months, I plan to spend all of my time getting out to meet as many of you as I can and listen to your concerns. I feel honored to have this opportunity to run for state representative and I will do all that I can to earn your trust – and your vote on Aug. 9 – the date of the primary election.

If you haven’t registered to vote, I encourage you to do so now. Please feel free to contact me with your questions. You can call or email me at melodious54@gmail.com or call me at 875-5414.

I look forward to meeting you and listening to your concerns.

Melody Reed
