Amid chainsaws buzzing like a musical ensemble more than 100 spectators sit in a semicircle of timber benches.

Three wood carvers are quick-carving wood sculptors, with chips flying, creating art. Within an hour, they were finished and their works were auctioned off.

An 8-foot tall wooden Bigfoot greets visitors and tents lined the parking lot at the old Black River Produce store filled with items for sale and carvers creating their wares.

On a recent morning as the mist lifts to an autumn in full color, the roar of chainsaws rises. Visitors, with coffee in hand, begin walking from tent to tent, looking at the variety of carvings.

Here on Route 103 in Cavendish, at the 7th Annual Big Buzz Chain Saw Carving Festival,  held Oct. 4 through Oct. 10, 30 wood carvers from around the country plied their craft.
