To the editor: 2017 Chester business brochure seeks more entries

letters-to-the-editor-logoThe Chester Economic Development Committee will be distributing updates on local economic development and business activities to make our community aware of initiatives under way.

Chester business brochure

Last year, more than 9,000 copies of the Chester business brochures were distributed to travelers through Vermont Information Centers, information racks in 100-plus businesses in southeastern Vermont, the Chester information booth and local businesses. According to a Bentley University study, business brochures are the most effective resource for visitors upon reaching their destination. Seven out of 10 visitors pick-up brochures and 95 percent indicate that the businesses and attractions they select are influenced by the information in brochures. Seventy-eight percent of travelers even consider altering their travel plans based on information in brochures.

Our goal for the 3rd Chester Brochure (2017) is to increase the number of business listings from 47 to 57 while also increasing the size of the pictures, shortening the narratives and standardizing the presentation of address, website and telephone information.

If resources permit, we will make the information in the brochure available online.

The Brochure Committee includes: Bill Dakin, Julie Pollard, Rick Paterno, Dave Nanfeldt and Steven Davis. If you would like to have an ad, contact Bill (875-2512), Julie (875-2693) or Rick (875-3346). If you have a calendar entry or would like to update your photo or text on your existing ad, contact Dave (875-4309) or Steven (875-5905).

Shop Chester Vermont: Open Late Thursdays

Michael Alon, co-owner of DaVallia Arts & Accents and a CEDC member, was instrumental in coordinating 13 businesses on The Green to stay open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays through Dec. 22. This is a great opportunity to see the lights and decoration around The Green, support local businesses and enjoy our local dining opportunities.

Lighting up the Green for the Holidays

CEDC contributed $500 to purchase additional strings of lights in support of the group that lights-up The Green. Every year the display grows and improves, with a goal of making the Chester Green a destination for families wanting to partake in the holiday festivities. In addition to more lights, cut Christmas trees have been added to the display this year.

The plan is to leave the lights on through the February Winter Carnival.

Enjoy the early winter and let it snow!

Sincerely,
Steven Davis
