CHESTER
Daniel A. Putnam 67, died unexpectedly on the evening of Saturday Jan. 16, 2021 at the Springfield Hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1953 in Springfield, the son of Arthur R. and Roberta (Paige) Putnam. He attended Chester schools, graduating from Green Mountain Union High School class of 1971.
He was employed with Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Co. for a short time before beginning a 40-year career as an oil burner technician working with Johnson & Dix, then retiring from Irving Oil in 2015.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years, and also was a volunteer firefighter in Chester.
Danny enjoyed flying remote controlled planes, riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing. He was also a gunsmith and enjoyed target shooting and reloading ammunition.
He is survived by his son Billy J. Putnam and his wife Tabitha, of Chester; brother Richard Putnam and his wife Mary, also of Chester; sister Marsha Call of Lebanon, N.H., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul Putnam.
At his request there will be no services. Davis Memorial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

We are so saddened to hear of Dannys passing. I was classmates with Marsha at GMUHS, and my family (Crossman) spent lots of summers gathering with the Putnam family at their home in Chester. Our parents were Chester High classmates(49’ers)and built floats for the alumni parades for many years, together with other classmates and life-long friends, in the Putnam barn. I have so many fond memories of lots of picnics, corn roasts in the upper field, and good times shared by all of our families. Danny will be sadly missed. Our love and prayers go out to the Putnam family for their sudden and heartbreaking loss.
I was saddened to hear about Danny. He was a classmate of mine at GMHS.
It was nice reading all the kind words from his neighbors. He made a difference and he did it with a smile.

So sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. Quiet well-liked man who loved camping.
He had a sweet little Sheltie, Mojo, who loved him to pieces. I imagine Mojo is gone by now too, getting up in his years. If not, hope he has a great home.
Dan will be missed. Always there if you needed help, just have to ask.

We were looking forward to getting to know him more and are taken back by such news of his passing. Our thoughts are with all of you and we offer any support we can. Great sadness on River Street with the loss of a man who helped so many of us…any day, any time, for most anything you would ask of him. Thoughtful and kind always through the 18 years he was my neighbor & friend. A new star in the Heavens with his arrival. Thank you, Dan… you will be missed.
